Here comes another fast-paced, Robert Holland novel for boys, and as always, it’s filled with twists and turns and plenty of action and suspense.

It begins with a rush as the starting quarterback sustains a concussion at the start of the second half of the first football game of the season and the main character, Red Rossiter, a sophomore is sent out to take over the team

And there is trouble at home too, as someone is trying to sabotage the family pecan far. The question, of course, is why and that as events unfold, an old legend about the Black Witches of Umber begins to come into play.

Because Red is the kind of guy he is, a guy who never backs down, he’s right smack in the middle of the action.

For Red there is the matter of earning the trust of the older players as he begins to change the offense to suit his game, going from an option running game to a passing game. Even geology figures in this complicated plot. In fact, the only thing left out seems to the kitchen sink!
